🚣‍♀️ Prom Dresses on the Water: Prom Ally Takes on the Dragon Boat Race!

Updated: Sep 12, 2025

Prom Ally Volunteers rowing int he Dragon Boat

Prom Ally CIC swapped sequins for oars as we took to the water for the annual Dragon Boat Race – all in the name of raising vital funds for our service as well as St Davids Hospice and the important work they do.

Our team of 13 amazing volunteers made waves in true Prom Ally style, rowing in full prom dresses and showing the crowd that sustainable fashion can shine anywhere – even on the water! Leading the charge was our founder, Ally, who took on the role of cox and kept the rhythm going by banging the drum.

And what a day it was! We might not have claimed the winning trophy, but our spirited crew rowed their way right through to the final round, finishing as runners-up, a result we’re so proud of. More importantly, the event was filled with laughter, team spirit, and an incredible atmosphere that brought our mission into the spotlight.

The Dragon Boat Race wasn’t just about fun – it was about fundraising. Every stroke our team rowed helped raise money to keep Prom Ally’s free prom outfit service running, ensuring disadvantaged teenagers across the UK can feel confident and included on their special day. We also jointly raised money for our local hospice who were hosting the event.

A huge thank you goes out to our volunteer rowers, the event organisers, and everyone who sponsored and supported our team. We couldn’t do it without you. 💖

Here’s to more adventures, more community spirit, and (maybe next year!) bringing that trophy home! 🏆
